JH Revell Jewerly and Goldsmith
James Revell - a fantastic, friendly jeweler who builds excellent products. by Christopher & Christine, 6/14/2004 My wife Christine and I got married in September of 2002. At the time we were living in Davenport, IA. About a year prior, I purchased her engagement ring from Kay Jewelers, however we really wanted something custom for her wedding band. Kay is a nice place, but as with all "market" jewelers, they're overpriced, with limited styles. We happened upon JH Revell while driving around the 53rd St. plazas. James is a very polite British fellow who is very willing to spend time helping you design jewelry from the ground up. (Just make sure you make a proper appointment--show the man some respect, he's very busy!!) He showed us some pictures of other customers' purchases on his computer. We were absolutely impressed, and decided to choose him for my wife's ring. Once we finally figured out what we wanted (kudos to James for dealing with two indecisive people), it took a very reasonable span of time to complete the project. I'm sure that by now, two years later, his business is booming and things are smoother still; when we got there, he'd only been open for a couple of months. Our ring is platinum with some sapphires and diamonds in a staggered design, and it fits wonderfully against the engagement band. When I say "design something," I mean it. He had one male customer, an architect as I recall, design a ring based upon a bridge that's present somewhere in the area. A bridge! Few big-market jewelers would ever consider the kind of intricasy James can get into. He gets quality stones for all his projects, and was very willing to fix any errors for free. Which leads me to the price: you would not believe the markup charged at big jewelers. Custom-made gets a bad rap: we got the ring for far, far less than we ever expected to pay.
