2 rings/ both white gold, on same finger one changing color
by Jessica , 8/20/2004

Lundstrom Jewelers is an the same as Whitehall. I learned this when they sent me the wrong credit card. Anyway, I bought 2 wedding bands w/ alternating diamand and sapphire stones (sort of an eternity ring but only the front of the ring). When I got them back mine had different color sapphires, and so I had them re-do it. The next pick-up the stones were all off center, so I had them re-do it. I got married maybe 5 months later, and went to Whitehall to get a new engagement ring to match. Not even 3 months after I started wearing the rings, the band was turning regular gold, though my husbands was not. I went to Lundstrom, and she said that white gold sometimes does that with certain people. Well, why wasn't my other ring from whitehall doing that? I have been wearing it for the same amount of time. She decided to give me a free plating, but I would never have bought the ring had I known it was plated so poorly! Now I've had the ring for almost a year and it's doing it again, while the other is fine, and my husbands is fine as well. Why don't they use the same gold for every ring, and shouldn't they have a warranty on their gold?

Took a chain with a diamond pendant in to have repaired.
by Anonymous, 4/17/2004

I took a chain that had to be repaired, with a diamond three tier pendant my husband and grandson had given to me for graduation. I left the pendant with the chain to go in together so that the jeweller could refit the pendant back on the chain. When I went to pick up the necklace, the pendant was missing. The salesperson said she had given me the pendant in a plastic bag, and only took the chain. The receipt does not indicate the pendant went with the chain, only that the chain needed repair, and I did not look at the receipt when I left the store. Therefore it is my word against the salespersons. I will not shop there again, although we have purchased several pieces previously. The pendant cannot be replaced (the sentimental value). I checked everywhere I thought I might have put it, but I definitely do not have it, and I truly do not remember receiving the pendant when I dropped off the necklace to be repaired. It is a disappointment.

Lost wedding ring last year ... and they still haven't replaced it.
by Anonymous, 4/15/2004

A Whitehall out of state lost my wife's wedding ring last year when sending it into their corporate headquarters for repair/analysis. It has been almost 9 months since and they won't return my phone calls and we don't have a replacement ring. Their VP told me to talk to the store, the store told me to talk to the VP. It appears that they can't communicate amongst themselves and don't want to get the situation resolved.

The reason I went to a national jeweler was for service after the sale. I trusted them to do what's right if I needed the ring cared for. They sell a family image based on loyalty and customer service but I've been painfully reminded that the bottom line is the only thing that counts.

They did offer to replace the ring but how can they replace what it meant to my wife and to our marriage. Try walking up to any happily married woman and offer to buy her wedding ring. I bet the price would be astronomical compared to the actual value of the ring (if they would even stop to talk to you). Even if I get another ring, it will cost me a significant amount of money out of my own pocket to do something special to "christen" the ring. We can't get married again. Can't redo the honeymoon. Whatever it is, it won't be the same.

Your local store may have the nicest and most honest people and be the best run jewelry store in the entire world but they can't overcome their corporate incompetence and greed. If you need trust who you do business with, then I have to recommend that you stay away from Whitehall Jewelers and their sister corporations. They've even been sued by their shareholders for allegedly being liars!!!

"The Complaint alleges that defendants violated the federal securities laws by issuing materially false and misleading statements contained in press releases and filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission during the Class Period relating to Whitehall, a specialty retailer of fine jewelry. " -- Source: Spector, Roseman & Kodroff P.C.

Read the whole press release and you'll get a good idea of what I've been dealing with and what kind of service you can expect.

Basically, my wife will never have her wedding ring back and it is Whitehall's fault.
